Keeping Everyone Happy At Camp Bestival- The Den

July 11, 2014 · by munchiesandmunchkins · Leave a Comment

Camp Bestival is a holiday for everyone. There really is something for all ages. When we go obviously we look for the toddler friendly but if you are taking older children/teens take a look at what is coming to this years CB:

20140711-125424-46464282.jpg

Yes that’s right an area specifically set aside for 13-17year olds. Described as a micro festival within a festival it will have something for all tastes.

With bands, DJs, spoken word and film screenings I kinda want to pop into the den myself!

The Den’s genre-swerving line-up won’t disappoint, either – whether its contemporary folk, live drum & bass or house that rings your bell, you better come prepared to hear some future stars. There will be live sets from founders of brand new genre Fip Fok, CoCo and the Butterfields, Cornish surfer and singer songwriter Nathan Ball, live drum & bass four-piece Animal House, the darkly melodic Fran Lobo, R&B pop force Karyma Ellis, Uke warriors Medina Ukulele Orchestra, nu-soulster Christen Kwama, acoustic troubadour Ali Gauld, multi-genre rap artist ShaoDow, classically trained Tyler Rix and party hip-hoppers Too Many T’s . Plus there will be DJ sets from Pharaoh K & Absynth, DJ Lukey, SGI DJs, Rats In Me Kitchen, Stanley Hood, Hadda and Erol Sabadosh.

Also did you know day tickets are now on sale.. These are really limited so snap em up while you can:

It’s Camp Bestival Month

July 2, 2014 · by munchiesandmunchkins · Leave a Comment

Woohooooooooooooo. Feels like we have been waiting forever for Camp Bestival to swing around but we can finally say it’s this month. YAY.

I know lots of my readers are going so just wanted to say if you want to meet up with me and some of the other official bloggers we will be in the Bollywood tent from 2pm ( ish ) on the Saturday. Would be great to see lots of you. Be sure to say hi.

We are just starting to plan what to take so watch out for a post on that next week and also what we are going to dress up as..

We are trying to decide whether to camp or glamp. Big decisions.

We have had more news from CB headquarters. This time about the National Trust bringing their 50 things Meadow to Camp Bestival.

So many fun and natural activities for kids and adults alike to join in from building dens, climbing trees and stargazing. We really can’t wait.

Look out for a post all about festival fashion tomorrow and for my packing list next week.

And BUY your tickets if you haven’t already. You know you want to.

Camp Bestival

* I receive a family pass to CB as part as my role as a super important blogger 😉 I then talk about it all year around as I love it so.

Where The Wild Things Will Be..Camp Bestival 2014

June 3, 2014 · by munchiesandmunchkins · Leave a Comment

I promised to share you with all the latest news and gossip from the team at Camp Bestival and what a lot of lovely news we have today.

20140602-222217-80537779.jpg

Starting with something which I find really exciting. How many hours of the week do your children spend in front of a screen of some kind? Be it at school, in the lounge or in their bedrooms….and it’s not just children. As a blogger I am all too comfortable spending my days looking at my iPad or smartphone and I will admit that some days I have to actively make myself take time away.

We went to a local beauty spot over the bank holiday for a day of BBQ’s and games with some friends and family. There was so signal on phones and we left everything else at home. It was a whole day of relaxing and just enjoying being outside. Lying on grass, being chewed on my various flying insects and throwing a frisbee at each other. It felt so peaceful. I remember days like that from my childhood and it worries me that my children are of the generation who won’t see as many days like that. It’s my job to make sure they do.

Anyway this is supposed to be about Camp Bestival (not my parenting) and so I will tell you about one of my favourite new features of this years fest.

Project Wild Thing

Team CB have teamed up with Project Wild Thing: a new and unique, people-powered movement to help children and adults reconnect with nature. Sounds good yes?

These are some of the things you and your children can participate in:

* Learning how to build a campfire
* Making Dens
* Rolling down hills
* Campfire cooking

And so much more. I am so excited about it all. More so by the fact that Izzy can be so much more involved this year.

I can’t wait to be a wild thing.

That’s not it though. Even more was announced today ..

The Travelling Barn

Ale and Hoe downs? You don’t need to ask me twice 😉

Get your checked shirts and straw hats ready to join in with barn dancing squad Cut A Shine.

Caravanserai

Caravanserai is a convoy of English and French artists, gypsies and beatniks who have set up an encampment for weary travellers and wanderers to rest and recharge. You can enjoy delicious cocktails while completely chilling out during the day and party on during the night.

Pig’s Big Ball Room

Dedicated to the memory of John Peel and his Pig’s Big 78 selections, it’s programmed by the Shellac Collective and Greg’s Greats and is a mind-blowingly amazing dance arena.

It’s officially time to start counting down 59 days ago….

Look forward of seeing you all there.

Roll up Roll up.. Circus fun at Camp Bestival 2014

November 28, 2013 · by munchiesandmunchkins · Leave a Comment

Woohoo it’s already time to start getting excited about Camp Bestival 2014!!

20131128-210108.jpg

The theme has just been announced and its all about the circus…this is what the main man had to say:

Camp Bestival Ringmaster Rob da Bank says: “Roll up, roll up, it’s circus time at Camp Bestival! Right from the start of putting on parties, back in the old days, we’ve always loved a bit of circus ballyhoo, no party is complete without a juggler or an acrobat, a hula-hooper or a contortionist and we promise that Camp Bestival 2014 won’t disappoint. We can’t wait here at Camp Besti HQ to get into the ring, so grab your greasepaint, get your costumes ready and we’ll see you at the end of July to kick off the school summer holidays in style. In the meantime, make sure you open all the doors on our brilliant advent calendar, there are some amazing Christmas surprises in store for some lucky Camp Bestivalites!”

If you know you don’t want to miss out on the festivities there is a fab payment plan to enable you to spread the cost over 25 weeks.

It’s the Final Countdown…Camp Bestival

July 27, 2013 · by munchiesandmunchkins · 11 Comments

I apologise for yet another lyric inspired blog title but it seemed apt with the 80’s vibe at this years Camp Bestival.

20130727-150730.jpg

Can you believe it’s only 5 days away? WOOP.

We are getting pretty excited here and I’m sure if you are attending you are too..if you aren’t attending..WHY? There are still ( a small) amount of tickets left so if by the end of this post you simply have to buy some then click here to visit the Ticketline site.

I’ve started writing my must take list which seems to have grown from last year. I won’t share it all with you but here are a few of my absolute essential for this years festival:

* Ear defenders – if you have a baby/young child these are an absolute must.

20130727-151125.jpg

* Readybed – as Izzy is a little older this year we have decided to take a Readybed with us.. They look incredibly cosy and have raised sides to stop your little un from tumbling out in the night. We were provided with one courtesy of Worlds Apart and I look forward to telling you what we thought on our return.

* Snacks – this year we plan on buying most of our meals at the festival for two reasons:

1. I feel pretty rubbish still and I want to take it easy as much as possible
2. The food line up looks awesome.

However we will still be taking lots of snacks and soft drinks with us as costs do mount up.

*Warm things – blankets, cosy clothes for nights outside your tent. It may have been pretty hot lately but in the middle of the night with just some canvas over you it can get chilly.

* Camping stove – to make cups of hot chocolate. No Pimms for me this year 🙁

* Nappies/wet wipes (lots of) and travel potty – we have just started on the magical journey of toilet training so we are very lucky to have a Potette Plus travel potty to review at Camp Bestival.

* Calpol/ paracetamols/plasters/sudocrem etc – because if you don’t take them you will need them.

* Tent/air beds etc – we don’t need a tent this year as we are GLAMPING ..wooooop. Normally I love camping but this year I will be 6 months pregnant and I want easy. We have booked a Tipi Tent with Hearthworks and it looks pretty fabulous. When we last spoke they had some amazing offers for Tipi Tents at just £299 if you haven’t booked anything yet.

* Clothes for all weather – festival weather is never predictable.

* Camera/batteries/charger etc – there is so much going on and you will want to record it all.

There are about a million other things on my list and much more I have missed myself .. The lovely @aresidence has a great packing list on her blog so take a look over there.

Anyway enough about packing what are we going to do when we arrive!??

Well…..

*Some relaxing on cushions at the Soul Dome 360 cinema ..

*Taking in the circus show at Bigtopmania…

*Being generally dumbstruck in awe at The Wall of Death and their crazy antics. We LOVED this last year and highly recommend it… Ear defenders needed for little uns.

*As Izzy is now in love with paint/crayons/chalk etc we will definitely take a trip to Art Town…

*We will (hopefully) relax on the grass and listen to The Levellers, The Proclaimers, Richard Hawley and loads of others as well as popping into the Bollywood tent for Barry Ashworth of Dub Pistols.

*Listen to the melodic voice of Howard Marks with his new spoken word show: Scholar, Smuggler, Prisoner, Scribe. An incredibly interesting man – really looking forward to this.

*Clambering to the front of the stage for a glimpse of the legendary Mr Tumble. He is my daughters hero and I think the look on her face when she seems him in the flesh will be incredible…

All this plus tons more music another 90 or so free activities for kids and of course the Young British Foodies tent featuring Gourmet Chorizo, Anna Maes Mac n Cheese, Pizza Pilgrims plus Doukan Moroccan and loads more. Ahh foodie bliss and that’s without the heavenly WI cake tent, the masses of food stalls all around the festival. You could try Churros, chapatis, nookie bars, pies, Ice cream, burritos or a good old burger. Spoilt for choice.

Last but not least I’m sure we will visit the soft play at some point and if it all gets a bit much we can chill in The Soul Park and maybe get my bump painted 😉

If you see me please come say hello.. I’m easy to spot with my ginormous belly.

Message in our bottle – Ecover

April 10, 2013 · by munchiesandmunchkins · Leave a Comment

I don’t normally blog about cleaning products. In fact I never blog about cleaning products but when Ecover asked me to spread the word about their message in a bottle I had to agree 😉 I’m a big fan of Ecover products and have been since I met them at last years Camp Bestival. They had the coolest stall, giving out samples of washing liquid ( essential at a festival) and free yoga classes but aside from that they are just a pretty funky company.

This is what they say:

We clean with care when it comes to the environment; our products are made from natural, sustainable plant-based ingredients and we’re constantly working to ensure they leave fewer unnecessary residues, biodegrade even more quickly and have less impact on aquatic life.

Sounds good yes? A product which works well and reduces the chemical guilt that we all feel at some point. I do love an easy way to be a bit more green.

Cleaning the seas, one bottle at a time

Cleaning the seas, one bottle at a time. Visit The-Splash for more information and to read our pledge.

Anyway look at the pic.. Read about what they do and try their products. Worth trying for sure.

* disclaimer – I have not been paid for this post, my thoughts are my own. The lovely people at Ecover are sending me a free bottle to try and I’ll let you know what I think 😉

Countdown to Camp Bestival #1

March 1, 2013 · by munchiesandmunchkins · 7 Comments

It’s that time of year again when I am officially allowed to start getting excited about Festival Season! Wooop.

It’s just 153 days until Camp Bestival. That’s less than 5 months (just) and there is so much to get excited over.

This is the first in a series of posts I’m going to write about all the amazing things that CB 2013 has to offer and well if you haven’t bought tickets by May I’ll be shocked.

Last year we only found out we were going about 2 weeks before we went and here is what we were most looking forward to then : 2012 Preview

It was far better than we could even imagine and I really do intend to go every year for a LONG
time to come.

Anyway here is a very quick summary of what we are looking forward to the most so far – things are still being announced so this list will get longer I’m sure. In no particular order:

The Levellers – I loved the Levellers when I was younger so really excited to see/hear them live.

Mr Tumble – We are all very excited to see Mr T this year. He was fab last year but Izzy was too young to really get it but fast forward to now and he is her hero so I’m excited to see her face light up when he appears on stage.. And if she gets to actually meet him ..well I don’t know who would be happier… Because as we all know Mr Tumble is funnyyyyyyyyy.

Dick n Dom – these guys were hilarious last year so will be fun to see them again.

Barry Ashworth ( DubPistols ) we have seen Barry perform with Dub Pistols 4 times now in different festivals and its always an amazing show.

Howard Marks – the bedtime story was one of the highlights for us last year and we will definitely be lounging in the grass to hear this years Howard take on a classic. Last year was Jack and the beanstalk – told in a way I’d certainly never heard it before.

Music we want to listen to : Gabrielle Aplin, Richard Hawley, The Cuban Brothers and many many more.

What we want to do:

The Wall of Death – we watched it twice last year and these super talented and crazily brave ( or just crazy ) group of stunt riders were fascinating. So glad it’s back this year.

Dance Space: excited to see this new feature of CB which you can read more about here

Visit the free sports park

Check out the pantomime

Go to the Young British Foodies tent – ah last year this place was heaven to me. The very best of British food in one tent with supremely tasty cocktails to wash it down with. Yum.

Visit the WI cake & tea tent. Last year it was too busy every time but I’m determined to get in early this time.

Eat lots of proper festival food: last year we indulged in Burritos from Luardos, Ribs from the famous Ribman and Paella as well as Churros.. Ice cream and of course Pimms.

If you want to read about last year you can do so here

A lot of people on twitter ask me if its easy to take a baby to Camp Bestival and it really is. Izzy was 9 months at last years CB and we all had a fab time. It’s a festival for all ages. If you have any questions at all or any concerns that I can help with please write them in the comments box and I will answer them all in my next post.

My next post will focus on what to take, all of the new things that feature at this years festival and how to enjoy yourselves with a baby at a festival.

20130301-140229.jpg

Until next time…

If you want to buy tickets you can do so here:Tickets

* Camp Bestival have given me tickets for this years festival and in return I will be writing a series of posts on the festival. All views are my own.. Or Izzys 🙂
