Nutri Ninja Review & Super Smoothie Recipe

October 13, 2015 · by munchiesandmunchkins · Leave a Comment

I was recently sent a Nutri Ninja blender to try out at home.

The Nutri Ninja Blender BL450 has a powerful 900 watt motor and it breaks down the whole fruit and vegetables so all of the goodness goes into your glass. You can be sure that your smoothie is packed with all of the nutrients and vitamins that your veg and fruit contain.

My favourite part of it is the blending cup which you just remove then unscrew the blade top and add a lid so that you can take it off to work or the gym or anywhere…with you. Easy and less washing up which is always a perk.

I’ve been making fruit smoothies most days since we have had it and we have all enjoyed it especially my fruit obsessed 4 year old. This is one I made today:

Nutri ninja review

To make this, you will need:

1 handful of cucumber
2 small apples
1 large handful of frozen strawberries
1/2 an avocado
100ml of mango juice/pulp

Blend together until smooth. Take away and enjoy at your leisure although it’s best straight away.

If you are looking for a powerful blender which is easy to use and perfect for a busy lifestyle then I highly recommend the Nutri Ninja.. Oh and it’s down to Ā£69.95 at the moment so grab a bargain on the Steamer Trading Cookshop website.

Berry & Banana Smoothies – My First Vlog

May 22, 2015 · by munchiesandmunchkins · 4 Comments

Arrgghh so today is my first Vlog.. Judging by how nervous I was making it ..it’s possibly my last. We shall see! I used my camera from my Iphone 4S to make these short videos of me making a berry & banana smoothie. I’ve made this recipe a few times as I always buy fruits such as bananas when they are reduced to clear and dice them and freeze in bags ready to blend. Adding the berries stops it becoming overpowered by the banana flavour and you can’t even taste the carrot or spinach so perfect for little ones who moan about veggies. My children love it.

I often use my phone to take images of my food because sometimes I only get a few seconds to do it.. Children aren’t exactly happy to wait while you stage the perfect shot and set up your proper camera so most of the photos you see on here and all of the photos you see on Instagram are from my phone.

Anyway without further ado here is a short video telling you what is in the smoothie:

Before you watch… Yes I know I say chopped, diced banana.. I meant frozen chopped banana..

Whats In The Smoothie?

The second video shows the end result and I managed to cut off the end of what I was saying which was that you could pop the leftovers into a lolly mould as they make fabulous lollies.

How Did It Turn Out?

So I have a lot to learn about vlogging BUT I think for a first attempt it wasn’t too bad. Now I just have to learn how to stop cringing every time I hear my own voice on video.. Any tips?

Do you use your camera phone to take videos?

Its worth noting that I haven’t got the most up to date model on my phone, in fact I’ve had it for a few years now and I bought it second hand but it works perfectly well. I love the fact that I can use it to take Instagram shots so they can be heavily filtered if I need them to be .. Most days right now to cover my huge eye bags! I use it to capture funny moments with the girls. Izzy in particular loves the front facing camera to take a selfie of herself with her dolls šŸ˜‰

I’ve currently got 3,300 photos stored on my phone – wow I think it’s probably time for a clear out!

Both girls enjoying their smoothies..I popped Chloe’s into a cup with a closed top..for my sanity.

Snickers Milkshake

July 18, 2013 · by munchiesandmunchkins · 2 Comments

In June I was very lucky to win a Vitamin Blender and I am sure I will be sharing recipes here on the blog including this Snickers Milkshake which you couldĀ alsoĀ make using anotherĀ blender of course but maybe use a high powered blender if possible.

Anyway I’ve had this mean machine for about 12 hours and I’ve made 4 different things.

First up I tried the vanilla ice cream from the Vitamix recipe book that came with it. Ice cream in a few minutes using just milk, sugar, vanilla and ice cubes. Yes please. It was really nice – I messed up the first batch as forgot to add sugar..it’s been a rather difficult day. Second batch was gooooood.

Then later on this eve I had an idea to make Snickers milkshake .. I first had a Snickers milkshake at Blissfields festival in 2011 where a really cool food/drinks stall made them using Vitamix style machines. I tried to recreate this myself last year using my Kenwood smoothie maker and well it wasn’t great but I had a feeling this machine was up to the job so here is the recipe.. Super simple as are all my recipes:

1.5 cups of milk – I used full fat
1 Snickers quartered
1 cup of ice cubes

Place all ingredients in the Vmix and turn on variable 1-10 before turning to high for approximately 60-90 seconds until smooth. Et voila. It tasted exactly like the ones I’d had at the festival. So good.

I’ve also made a zingy lime smoothie and some incredible hot chocolate which I promise to share tomorrow but for now I need my bed.

Nanight x
